๐Ÿšฉ Religion and the British policy of 'Divide and Rule'. © ✒ Guru Balwant Gurunay ⛩

1.  How and why did the British come to use religion  as an instrument of command and control in India ?

2.  Why did they make religion the central peg of their new found policy and came to use the policy of 'Divide and Rule' as their spinal policy in the sub-continent ?

3. Why and how did the Indian Politicians start thinking that India is their ancestral property?

4. Here is a brief but precise take on all these questions by  your's humbly.

5. Very few people can have the courage to accept acknowledge and respect it, but the truth is that before 1857, British loved and patronized loyalty, valor, chivalry, character, grit, determination etc etc, as the most desirable qualities in their native associates.

6.  Mangal Pandey and people like him represented all this and were the hot favorites of British Officers and their masters in Madras, Calcutta, or London..

7.  But, during and after the uprising of 1857 popularly known as Sepoy Mutiny, the British realized that Indians are more loyal to their religious beliefs, as unfounded as some of them may come,  rather than to their masters or their nations.

8.  It is worth mentioning here that more than 550 nation states, existed in Indian sub-continent in those days, ruled by different Rajas or Nawabs, some as big as any large state of India, and some as small as a district or a tehsil. But one thing quite common to all these states were largely common  cultural and religious beliefs, practices and festivities, both Islamic and Hindu.

9.  Thus, after the mutiny of 1857, the British decided to use an Indian native's loyalty towards his religion as the instrument of dispersing, any and all disillusionment that the native could have towards his British officers.

10.   That is when a new policy to administer Indian troops and India at large was devised.

11.  British made it a well established policy where all people with loyalty, valor, chivalry, character, grit, determination etc etc, were recruited into Native British army, commanded by directly appointed young british officers, called the commissioned officers,  who in turn commanded the troops via native troop commanders, risen from amongst the ranks, called Junior Commissioned Officers.

12.  British encouraged their troops to uphold their respective religious symbols and ensured a strict adherence to them in name of discipline and loyalty. Symbols like turban, namaz, dietary restriction and what ever it takes to be symbolically very very religious, were religiously established and enforced by the British.

13.   Most of the native lot in forces came from poor illiterate rural India, which was vast in its expanse.

14.  On the other hand people with similar qualities like loyalty, valor, chivalry, character, grit, determination etc, but literate and aware, namely people like  Bhagat Singh, C.S. Azad, Raj Guru, Bismil and their likes were deliberately marked as possible threats to empire and finished off.

15.   Most of this lot, namely threats to British Empire, came from the then Indian Middle class which was very less in numbers.

16.  The British, made sure that the symbols of religion are glorified beyond a rational point  by building an irrational commitment to those symbols, over and above mutual brotherhood.

17.  They encouraged and exploited to their best advantage the devotion that Indians had for their respective religions. The modus operandi was to ask the loyalty from native troop's to their immediate command by masking it as loyalty for their respective religions.

18.  Sikhs became their loyal followers. This was a direct result of a culture where religion and its symbols were deliberately elevated to build a fulcrum around which an army battalion's life would rotate.

19.  So much so that a paltan on march would carry SGGS ji on its head where ever it went, even in war. Similarly a hindu Paltan would carry Thakur Ji or Devi Maa's statue or painting etc etc. Temple, Gurdwara and Masjid 'parade' [Official praying Session],  became a well established tradition.

20.  Every British commanding officer made sure that he and his officers attended the temple parade as per the strict orders and norms laid out by  policy makers. Even if a British Officer failed to Salute SGGS ji, or rise from his chair,  he would be punished or even suspended.

21.  Thus respect for their respective religions by Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs and all was encouraged amongst the troops and exploited to the hilt by the British to their own best advantage.

22.  For their civilian set up the British encouraged the sly calculative cowardly brown-nosers to come forward and serve them to the extent of pimping for them.

23.  A well thought out importance started being given to sly, scheming, well read, British educated, calculative and manipulative class of Indians,  who later emerged as bureaucrats or political leaders of masses, with support of the then British Media.

24.  Tragedy of India is that when British left they made sure the country gets divided on Hindu Muslim basis, and the army  gets divided on similar basis too, and the civilian setups of both India and Pakistan, power gets passed on to sly pimps who continued the policy of religious and class divide in India to rule it, and then passed it to their next generation, as if India and it's political set up was their ancestral property.

25.  Most of these idiots became politically powerful and resource rich. The time has come to pull the carpet from under their feet, because this ugly practice of making politics a preserve of a few manipulative families has today not only centralized power in some singular families, but also promoted corruption and criminalization of politics.

26. Using Religion as a tool of politics is also a huge curse of India, as it is enough to  ensure that India never ever emerges as a truly united nation.

27.   It is sad to notice that the incumbent BJP government, had promised to do away with 'Parivar-vaad' but has repeatedly failed to deliver on it, as a new level of Parivar-vaad has already begun to rise in this party aswell. To expect  religious-less politics from BJP is to expect a bull to grow wings and fly. Modi is my only hope amongst the Bhajpa leaders.  He can think and act out of box, so I still hope that he has a vision for a truly united India, free from bile of religion and curse of Parivaar-vaad

28.  So all changes have to come from public initiative by opposing both Parivaar-vaad aswellas use of religion as a tool of politics.

๐ŸšฉTime to say goodbye to your oldself, if you desire to be in the new world.๐Ÿšฉ@๐Ÿ“šGBG⚔

1.  Christchurch terror attack, Pulvama terror attack, hundreds of other terrorist attacks,  death of thousands of innocent people at hands of Islamic, Christian, Hindu and Sikh extremists, lakhs of people killed in religious riots, has one thing that is common, and it is RELIGION.

2.    In the modern world, 'Religion' is failing as a  social glue. WHAT  was once functional for the benifit of human society, in bringing medieval tribes and communities together for unity of thought, effort and human growth, has today become, more of a tool in the hands of politicians, to organise dissent amongst people by highlighting and flaring their sentiments of differences,  causing inter communal strife, even where it can easily be avoided.

3.   Let keeping our cities  and towns crime free, muck-free, pollution free, be our new religion. Dont worry about any God, Allah or Vaheguru, as any such imagined  power could not refrain mass killers from their actions.  I think the world can be a better place without God, Religion or  so called houses of prayer. To begin with,  let all places of worship be converted to, schools, libraries, old people's homes, hospitals or what ever the need of immediate community be.

4.   For the benifit of humanity, the following rules must voluntarily be put in place,  and given social and legal sanction, and then be strictly followed.

i).  Any public display of one's religion, like flags, stickers etc.  should stop.

ii).  All prayers should be a personal affair of an individual, and must only be carried out in the privacy of one's home.

iii).  All charity and social service can and should be done, only in the name of humanity. Giving it any religious hue should be done away with.

iv).  Every person must follow the dictum of 'Do in Rome, as Romans do'. In other words follow the law of the land.  Why should some one even think of following a 1500 years old medieval Sharia law in  place of modern laws .

v).  Imagine a person from a 'left-hand drive' nation, migrating to a 'right-hand drive' nation, and insist that he will drive on the left alone, as that's what he has always done. Wouldn't it be outrightly stupid ? Adapt and adopt. Imbibe the culture of the country that you have migrated to. Learn the language, music, ways and food of your new home.

vi).  Stop carrying your religious and cultural baggage to your newly adopted homes.  If you so much love your hijab, turban,  mandir, masjid or gurudwa, why did you move out in to a new places in the first place.  Your adopted lands already have their rich cultural heritage.

7. So do not please carry your mental and cultural pollutants to your new homes. Travel light and free, adapt to, and adopt  the new culture, and be a cause of harmony in your new nation, rather than being a cause of stress, strain and discord.

๐ŸšฉDe Novo Religious philosophy, is the need of the day๐Ÿšฉ©@✒ GBG⚔

๐ŸšฉDe Novo Religious philosophy,  is the need of the day๐Ÿšฉ©@✒ GBG⚔

1.  Religion, this or that, needs to be redefined as per our modern social setup.

2.  We need a De-Novo approach to religion. Our misinformed faith and ill-conditioned loyalty towards organised religions must immediately stop, and get redefined in light of, and in favour of  modern sociological, psychological, legal, ethical and  and political thought, which has evolved in the modern times.

3.   To start with, the singular socio-political rider that needs to be put in  place, across globe is that religion can not be allowed to create, any appeal, over and above the basic laws and ethics governing a modern state.

4.   If at all, a citizen feels he needs 'God', he/she must  keep his/her God with in the confines of his/her home.

5.  We often talk of bringing about systemic changes, but continue to stick to old and obsolete systems of organising human society, ethics and values, on basis of obsolete systems,  in name of religion.

6.  Truly and sincerely speaking, a democracy can not ever survive along side a parallel theocracy, or theocratic parallel states  can not be allowed to operate with in a democratic state.

7.  Tragedy is that false and sham democracies like ours, are based on politics of numbers, which in turn depend upon creating identity and ideological divides within the society, religion being one of the major fulcrums to leverage this divide.

8.   As a result citizens of a  state repeatedly fail to realize that they are citizen members of a nation, a state, with its well defined rules of conduct and behaviour called 'LAW OF THE LAND' and a book called constitution. They most mistakenly keep on holding their holy books, over and above the constitution and Law of land.

9.  As young children, people foolishly are taught and conditioned to hold in high esteem their religion, their priests, their so called holy books, where as majority of the citizens of any modern state have not even  seen the outer cover of their nation's constitution, which technically governs the day to day life of a modern state's citizens. Most sincerely speaking, an honest and law abiding citizen does not need any religion or religious teachings.

10.  We need to change all this. Any stupidity in the name of  religious  faith,  and I repeat 'any' religious faith, must be most strongly dealt with, if the modern state has to survive, or else we shall all perish, fighting each other and killing each other in the name of protecting our religions, and fighting our own narrow ended Jihads.

1.  Lets try and understand today, 'The Origin of the Concept of Human Quest to Know the Unknown,  Creation of God to fill in the Empty Spaces,  and the Systemic Organisation of Universe' around  us.

2. The human brain has been seeking answers to universal quizzes for ages now, and as a result, all his not easily understood fears and anxieties, were deitified as 'God', or 'gods and goddess', or 'evil demons'. This became the root of religions based on appeasing these gods and goddesses to get benificial results, and compilation of detailed texts on how to go about the business of doing so, either written by a person, or some persons  over a period of time ranging from some years or some centuries.

3. Along with a lot of mumbo jumbo on business of god, (directly benefitting the exploitative priests), these texts also adressed other human issues like trade, health, medicine, agriculture, social organisation, social norms, personal and social morals and ethics, although these texts only could impart knowledge as per the limited information available to their authors,  at the time these texts were written, or  compiled.

4.  We can not and should never forget that these religious texts, and the knowledge aswellas instructions within them,  must have been relatively relevant in a particular time and space, but may not really be as relevant today, as they were in the past, but those  belonging to priestly or political class, thos who benefited directly, both economically and politically, by  proclaiming these texts divine, created a divine halo around them, and even proclaimed these texts to have some super human or so called divine origin. This is how basically all religions and all the 'Kleshaas' attached to them came in to being.

5.  Not every one was or is satisfied by these religious texts, as not every one is ready to blindly commit one self,  to a thought process in which he or she is born or initiated when young.    Out of an extremely exploitative   clutter in organised religions , and the  need for freethinking human's  to seek the truth, arose the quest for esoteric knowledge.   In the west, this esoteric understanding grew much later but in India,  it took root some 2500 years ago, in the Indo-Gangetic plain, which then experienced a massive  urbanization wave.

6.  This urbanisation surge in turn produced opportunity for trade, wellness, leisure and pleasure, giving opportunity to intellectual traditions, to take birth and grow.  Buddhism, Jainism, Charvakism and  Ajivikas were thus born.

7.  All these traditions rejected conventional Vedic beliefs, the concept of 'God' so common in India,  and all the jigmaroll  attached to it, including the mumbo-jumbo mythical theories of creation, and thus these traditions came to be called the atheistic (เคจाเคธ्เคคिเค•) traditions by Indian standards. Just a point worth mentioning here is that every, cave, every meditative space, every temple, does not necessarily mean that it has some god or religion attached to it. The cave, temple or the meditative space may have been created by an atheist thinker, scientist or an atheist  monk.

12.  Buddhism and Jainism amongst them emerged as thriving religions/lifestyles,  whereas some like the Ajivikas or Charvaka traditions got lost in time, but their eternal message stayed. Buddhism and Jainism, having emerged as thriving religions, has  nothing to do with, or never had any connection with God, but ofcourse Budha and Mahavir having been deitified and them beginning to be worshiped like  gods is certainly a reason for this.

13.   The fact that  wise men like Budha and Mahavir started being termed as Bhagvaans, and ritualistic woships of Budha and Mahavira, and other ritualistic bullshit  to charm the average foolish mind was initiated in Buddhist and Jain practices,  has been instrumental, in these philosophies or lifestyles, having been transforming in to organised religions, again to the real benifit of priests and politicians alone.

14. The Charvkaas and Ajivika philosophies have no space for any foolish worship, beliefs  or rituals.  These pictures that I am sharing in this post are of Ajivika caves, In a place called Barabara, near Gaya in Bihar. The Caves were built for and used by the mystics of Ajivika tradition. After the Avijikas faded off, these caves were used by Buddhist, Jains and Hindu sadhus as well.

15.  Today these caves are a popular tourist spot for visitors to Gaya. Who are unaware, that these caves, are the last vestige of an atheist tradition, which believed in  tradition of dining together of all castes and creeds, and the concept of working for a living, as preached by Guru Nanak, centuries later.

on those defending RELIGION.

©Whenever I have asked friends from different religions to revisit their own flaws, introspect and help their communities evolve, rather than doing the needful, they start justifying anything and everything in and about their religions.
Rather than revisiting their concepts, they start rationalizing all that they accepted as perfect and holy, not by any reason of logic but only by an accident of nature, that is their birth in one or another place or ideology.
Rather than enlightening themselves on esoteric and eternal truths of life, of universe and humanity, they start flashing the flawed torches of their religious conditioning handed over to them by their so called enlightened masters.
To be truly enlightened, we all need to learn about each other's religions and philosophies, but knowing them as their blind followers know them alone is not enlightenment. Enlightenment in fact is only possible when we have examined all the facets of a subject or object.
If all points put forward by a follower of any religion were perfectly true, there would not have been the need for any debate at all.
A staunch Muslim, a staunch Sikh, a fundamentalist Hindu or a dogmatic Christian always tries to build a case supporting his own religious beliefs and his religion as such, covering up its philosophical flaws and practices. A blind follower is unable to speak a word against the flaws of his faith because he or she has been conditioned to believe that his/her religion is perfect and to doubt it is a sin.
I for that matter believe that the very fact that new philosophies and religions keep emerging in our world is itself a proof that change is the only constant.

เค•ोเคˆ เค•เคฎी เคœเคฐूเคฐ เคนै เคœो เคชाเคฏी เคœाเคคी เคนै।
My argument should not be read as my allegiance to any religion or my aversion to another. I am an Omnist and an Atheist at the same time, but having walked through the lanes and by-lanes of all major religions, I can verily say that jurisprudence for women in any present major religion is flawed, other than Nanak's Sikhism and Buddha's Buddhism.
Sati and mistreatment of widows, for instance the mistreatment of Hindu widows of Vrindavan is practically treating women like cattle.
Women being treated as property of men in Islam, them being treated as war booty, as loot, เค—เคจीเคฎเคค เคฏा เคฒूเคŸ เค•ा เคฎाเคฒ, and then being treated like slaves to be resold after having fulfilled the carnal desires of one master to another are highly flawed concepts.
A woman rape victim in Islam has to bring at least four male witnesses to testify that she was raped, is highly abusive of women. Even otherwise, two female witnesses being equal to one male witness in the Islamic system of justice, is an absolute injustice to women.
Its Buddha's method or Nanak's method alone which brought both genders at par. Even Christianity accepted gender equality quite recently, but the myth that Eve is the cause of fall of mankind still sustains. Positive side of Christianity is that it opened its door to accept logic over dogma in the past few centuries, but that was not easy as it still suffers from many prejudices against women, like the paradox of the Eva/Ave palindrome.
In Nanak's method or Sikhism, the Singhnis and Singh's are equal in each and every way. เคธो เค•्เคฏों เคฎเคจ्เคฆा เค†เค–ीเค เคœिเคธ เคœเคฎ्เคฎे เคฐाเคœाเคจ.....(Why should women be condemned when they are the ones who give birth to kings and saints.)....is the core principle of treating women in Sikhism.
For highly evolved spiritualists, no religion is necessary, but for those who do feel the need to follow a particular one, they all must understand that, for any religion to grow and sustain, it not only needs to be positively interpreted but also be ready to evolve and grow to achieve maximum positivity.
Otherwise it can only sustain itself with the power of sword and herein the universal principle is, 'Those who stand by the sword do fall by it'.
Although the debate must continue, as if those who can talk, will stop talking, only status quo will sustain, and that is hatred and misunderstandings amongst the followers of different religions, in a distrustful and war torn world. May good sense prevail. ....Guru Balwant Gurunay.©all copyrights reserved.

Religions that don't evolve are DEADWOOD.

© Friends being a rationalist I often talk about and against fundamentalism in any religion or philosophy including Sikhism, Hinduism and Islam etc.
Sometimes people accept and appreciate the logic but some times they do get offended.
Most of those who get offended resort to an old trick. As a last resort they put up a counter argument that you (Guru Gurunay) not being a follower of our religion, and not having read our holy scriptures, your argument may be based on assumptions.
They say it assuming that I have Presented my argument based on partial browsing of their scriptures or having read its interpretations in lines here and there.
A similar incident happened recently where an old friend from Islam did not take kindly to my very polite observations about some of its extremly rude practices, like an absolute intolerance of other religions and its flawed concepts on women's jurisprudence.
The gentleman shot at me the same argument that firstly I am not a Muslim and secondly I have not read the Quran.
This is my answer to my Islamic friend and I am putting it here on record and for public scrutiny both.
I have read the Quran and it finds a place in my personal library along with Bhagvat Gita, Bible, Japji, other works of Nanak, Mahabharata and Yog-Vashisht, loads of Osho, JK and many more.
I have had detailed discussions on religions and other philosophical issues with learned murshids and scholars.
So do hold your guns before shooting from the hip on issues philosophical and theological as you are not dealing with a Gringo here but a hard core rational cowboy who has fought and lived through not one but many intellectual battles.
Now the matter in hand.......
Truly speaking, nothing matters, either my argument based on logic ........that all religions have inherent flaws and they need to evolve ..........or your argument based on faith alone ........that there in fact are heavens in the skies etc etc and Rasool was the last and perfect prophet or whether Hindu gods actually had four hands or not etc etc.
What matters at the end is whether the out come of an idea concept or ideology is Just and productive for society or not.
Every religion is founded to bring justice peace and order to society. If rather than that it serves as an instrument of adding chaos to society its of no use.
As far as justifying any concept or plan on basis of unique circumstances that prevailed when a concept was founded or a plan made... is no excuse at all for executing it ditto in the present set of circumstances.
Any insistence on sticking to past logic and traditions of a religion to justify its present is the first sign of it being obsolete and spent.
Two cardinal benchmarks must be applied while judging a religion.
1. If followers of any religion are unable to evolve, as in their faith is unable to evolve to present times, and if they depend for any and every thing they refer to on suunnat....or tradition as they say.... that too a tradition set 1500 years ago, there is some thing seriously wrong.
Going strictly by that you should not be using a car, but riding a camel, you should only be eating dates for breakfast and not bread and omelette. You should not be wearing jeans as that way you follow the sunnat of Clint Eastwood rather than your prophet. You should not be living in high rise buildings but tents, or to top it all you should not be in India, Europe or America at all.
Well going by pure tradition, you should only be living in the desert of Arabia. Even the Sahara and Thar desert dwelling is not as per sunnat strictly because Rasool never lived here.
2. If a religion even after 1500 years of having been found has to resort to violence, sword and gun politics, just to be heard, it is basically flawed.
The problem with some muslim brothers is that they always mistake courteous silence of their other faith friends as either acceptance of their ideology and logic or simply as a hint of intimidation.
Many people born in Islam had outgrown this fixated mind set a long time back.
Baba Fareed, Baba Bullehshah, Baba Hashmat shah, Amir Khusro sahib, and many more great saints, PBUT are just few of them. Then a great King like Akbar who many fools think was an illiterate but was in fact a very well self taught and awakened man fully denounced Islam and founded Deen E Ilahi, to substitute Islam with in India.
So the fact remains that the key is not to silence dissent by beheading or murdering the questioning voices but answer them with logic and if all that you have is references from a dead past, then gracefully accept it and move forward rather than roll a Civilization back in to dark ages.
As far as the young pigeons on chessboard are concerned, they are free to strut around. Inexperience is forgivable and as we all know its no use arguing with idiots. .............Guru Balwant Gurunay.

Religion is an opium for MORONS.

Most of the people in the world including us, the great secular Indians, are overwhelmed by religion.

Right from our childhood this mandir, masjid, church or Gurudwara thing is drilled in to us.

So inspite of having a scientific approach on many other things of life when it comes to religion we suspend our logic and start getting emotional.

Religion is the most abused and misused concept. As you will start delving deep in to the subject you will realize that all religions started as 'Rebel' or 'Revolutionary' movements against social oppression or oppression by state and its rulers. It always has been the call of the times and some unique circumstances.

Later when the basic function of these revolutionary movements, that is bringing about social and systemic changes, was over, they got hijacked by the leftovers of those movements or the clever priestly class whom I would refer to as Psycho criminals.

The Rebels and revolutionaries who laid down their lives for a good cause were reduced to deities or we can safely say got deityfied in temples or mosques  without or with their images or statues like Krishna, Durga, Hanuman Ji, Ram or JESUS on the CRUCIFIX.

Their families, their dogs, cats, horses and even birds or the books they wrote, read or prescribed to became holy animals, holy people or holy books.

We like fools started looking at great people as some kind of holy spirits or gods. We started thinking of them not as some Great Teachers, Murshids, Gurus or Pirs but more as  some kind of demigods or all prevailing spirits that would guide us or chide us as we traverse the road of our mortal lives, not with their teachings but with their divine interventions.

This took us away from the ideals the great people stood for, fought for or sacrificed their lives for. But we with our sheepal adulations and meaningless rituals (Draameybaazi),  most certainly did manage to turn them into idols to the joy and advantage of priestly class.

Even in this great age of science and technology, we like idiots born in the dark ages continue to have faith in superstitions. The greatest superstition of all is 'Religion' itself. It is all bullshit. All religions are pure '100%' Bullshit. God, as we know him or perceive him, is the biggest lie on earth and so is the devil.

Only cardinal truths are goodness or evil in the human beings who by a superb accident of nature are at the top of the food chain.

If their is a higher intelligence that has created the world then that intelligence is neutral to what happens with the hydrocarbon bits and bytes here animated by a superb  biochop called 'ATMA' or 'Soul", a software that the software engineers of this world shall never decipher.

Religion is the opium of morons, spirituality the elixir of fools, silence the music of awakened ones, 'aware speech' the call of the Lord and a 'Mast Bazm'  being His/Her only true 'Mahfil'.

Religion is no more than just but a stick used by clever priests and rulers to shepherd the sheepal fools in to the butcheries of political ambition and control. It’s the biggest 'Command and Control' HR trick, a system with which you can put a sworn zombie or an established floozie in charge of millions of otherwise intelligent people. The best part is the trick is still working

I am not an atheist.  I do believe in Goodness and God but at the same time I am convinced that 'Organised Religions and Cults' built around a kind of 'Hostel Matron God are purely the work of Devil.  God is ANJAN mahi Niranjan. He does not need your worship, your prasad or your candles. Handle the candles and the food to the needy and may be the true God is served a bit by you as you serve the good ness.

I remember  a joke. Once some senior demons went to Devil and complained about one Prophet after another visiting the earth. This way we might just run out of business...complained the demons. Devil asked them not to worry at all. Devil said,"Once the Saintly souls leave make it a point that you build a shrine and a religion around each one of them". Since then the business has been booming.  CIAO

OUR WORLD NEEDS TOLERANCE

The Great son of India Swami Vivekanand once said " LOVE EVERY ONE IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR COLOUR, CREED, CASTE AND RELIGION, IF YOU WANT TO BE RELIGIOUS, ENTER NOT THE GATE OF ANY ORGANISED RELIGION".

Religion is between you and God, a very personal and pious relationship. What has a pandit, maulvi, bhai or a pastor got to do between god and you. Please don’t tell me that god listens to these guys more than you. Think what these organized religions have done other than riots, war and terror. Organized religion put people in to separate groups. They motivate them to be different from other groups. But true religion is the religion of universal brotherhood.Every religion talks of love, but if loving your own people means hating everybody else, it is the quintessence of selfishness and brutality.
