🚩Ringing Bells and Clapping was a Rude Display of Lack of Empathy for Victims of Epidemic.🚩

1.   Supporting the 'Janta Curfew' was alright. A country wide lock down was a medical emergency and thus a necessity.   I heartily supported it, and will willingly support it again, as and when our government shall require us to do so,    'but' clapping of hands and ringing of bells  was nothing more than a cheap publicity stunt. It all looked like a vulgar display of  insensitivity and  looked  hollow and cheap.

2.  Many people came out and did it, partly because it is such an easy thing to do. Just  stand there and applaud and then walk back into our houses feeling self content, as if we have actually achieved something,  and partly many folks  did it just  because everyone else is doing it @ 'Fear Of Missing Out'. If the true intent to appreciate the health and sanitation workers existed,  the government would have focused on providing them with health care kits, rather than just ringing bells. The health workers  don't have enough personal protective equipment (Full body plastic suits we've seen frontline workers wearing in China and Italy).  They don't have enough testing kits. There have been cases where doctors and nurses working with COVID-19 haven't been tested yet,  as there aren't enough kits. The pitiable number of ventilators and  ICUs are nothing to applaud about.

3.   What's wrong with such symbolism is, that for Chamchas, it's just a chance to display their cheap support to a politician's call, bent upon believing that he is irreplaceable for India.  The common man imagines that, healthcare and other frontline workers are taken care of, by  just ringing a bell or clapping hands for them.  I'm afraid it doesn't work like that. The doctors and frontline workers are too busy to ask questions, they want us to see what's not going proper for them. They want us,  the people of India to  ask questions from our government on their behalf. We must ask the  government everyday, what it is actually doing for these frontline health workers on ground.

4.  Ironically, by ringing  bells and clapping our hands, we were simply hurting the sentiments of those suffering the consequences of epidemic.  Are we celebrating the suffering and death of thousands of lives taken by Covid-19,  or are  some of us even superstitiously HOPING, that like this the virus will disappear ?  Some fools were even dancing and making loud noises while clapping there hands.  How foolish and heartless it all seemed.  If it's all about showing support for health workers, well then,  rather than ringing bells, why don't  the clappers offer themselves as volunteer health assistants.

5.   I am sorry, but the truth must be upheld.  Personally, I appreciate the 'Janta Curfew',  as well as the lockdown, but this bell and clap drill sounded rather sick, when in Italy coffins are awaiting burials  for lack of space, and in India, people are not only dying, but  don't even know what is about to hit them.  Instead of ringing a bell or beating my daphali, I rather said a silent prayer for the departed souls, and those continuing to suffer unsaid pain @ Covid-19.
