What is Dharma after all ?
Are  organised religions like Hinduism, islam, sikhism, etc etc Dharma, or Dharma means some thing else ?
What Dharma  Lord Krishna is talking about when he proclaims:-

Meaning of 'Dharma'  is quite simple if we look at all the conotative and denotative meanins of the word.  In its first  meaning as meant by Shri Hari,  It means balance in society and self, period.

When the scriptures talk of establishing Dharma in society,  the scriptures are only talking about establishing, order,  justice, and balance, in  a society,  in which the good, the innocent, the weak do not get troubled or exploited by evil, or powerful.

In its second meaning when word is used with an other world like ,  Raj-Dharma,  the word starts to mean duty. Raj- Dharma is a King's duty to his people and his state.

Then another meaning of Dharma is  one's inner core nature.  For example words like Sva-Dharma or  Nij-Dharma mean one's innate gunaas or qualities, for example svadharma of bronze is solid, metallic but brittle where as svadharma of gold is  solid, metalic but malleable where as svadharma of water is liquid and free-flowing.

The use of Dharma, as denoting this or that organised religion is, nothing more than a corrupted use of it.

Although in religions  the word was  intended to convey discipline and duties, यम नियम और कर्तव्य. Every religion gives some do's and dont's, thus some basic duties to be followed by it's followers, essential duties to be fulfilled, thus a religion came to be known as a Dharma too Inspite of all its ritualistic parpanch.

Lets now also touch upon God. God is infact a great placebo. Only fools waste there time on a subject they can not understand.

Most revered Guru nanak and great masters of orient have defined God as अलख (one about whom nothing can be said)and निरंजन( One who can not be seen).  Thus God can not be described and its a sheer wastage of time to do so.

So God has nothing to with the organised religions and their followers, the so called 'relidiots' of this earth.

Religions are nothing more than either  being clever manipulation of society by priestly and ruling class, just as in organised caste system in Manuvaadi Hinduism or a righteous rebellion against highhanded abuse of power,  as is the case of emergence of Sikhism.

If at all there is GOD, he is only concerned about maintaing laws of the universe, and not this or that religion in particular. 'Chintii tey kunchar asthulaa, sab pey kripa drishti kar phoola' proclaims Gurbani.

For the benifit of our selves, society and our earth, rather than bringing in God etc, let us focus on the word DHARMA, as one's  duty alone. And for the more extended meaning of it, it can only mean balance, order and peace.

Shri Krishna's words need being rightly interpreted in this light alone.
'Yada yada hi dharmasya glanirbhavati bharata; Abhythanamadharmasya tadatmanam srijamyaham; Paritranaya sadhunang vinashay cha dushkritam; Dharmasangsthapanarthay sambhabami yuge yuge:'

The true meaning of these two slokas is,
Whenever there is decay of righteousness of systemic laws, O Bharata (Arjuna), and    unrighteousness gets exalted,  then for the protection of the good, and for the destruction of evil-doers, I come forth .

I am born from age to age for the sake of firmly establishing righteousness/Dharma.
