Some facts that must come to your
mind when you splurge on firecrackers this diwali…
Air Pollution… Every Diwali the levels of
sulphur nitrates, magnesium, nitrogen dioxide increase, and these chemicals are
injurious to our respiratory passages. Asthamatics, beware! Diwali can be
potentially fatal. Surface ozone is a harmful pollutant, which is associated
with persistent decrease in lung function, pneumonia, influenza and
asthma. It is produced by the photo oxidation of CO and hydrocarbons, in
presence of adequate amount of nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2) at low
altitudes. Laboratory
experiments show that higher the amount of flammable materials in the
fireworks, higher was the level of ozone that was produced and thus proved that
in addition to emitting light in the visible region, metals at high temperature
also emit radiation in the ultraviolet region. Consequences of this are that
the high energy UV radiations are absorbed by molecular oxygen present in
the air, resulting in the splitting of molecular oxygen into atomic
oxygen, which in turn reacts with molecular oxygen to produce ozone. We
also must remember that fireworks contain harmful chemicals such as potassium
nitrate, carbon and sulphur apart from an array of chemicals such as
strontium, barium, sodium, titanium, zirconium, magnesium alloys, copper
and aluminum powder to create the colourful effects. On burning these chemicals
release gases such as carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). Although surface ozone exhibits
high natural variability throughout the year, Surface ozone pollution during
the festival of Diwali may prove deadly for a large number of elderly people
and children.
Child Labor
Exploitation... Numerous children sit late into the night
making firecrackers. Firecrackers are made using harmful chemicals and acids,
and these children work from dawn to dusk, breathing harmful fumes burning
their hands, legs and eyes, and getting maimed for life. Their wages are
minimal and work conditions are worst.
Ecology… One Diwali night causes as
much damage to the ecology as regular pollution does over the span of a
year. Particulate matter levels increase and the respirable
suspended particulate matter (RSPM) values shoot up to 796 and 1138 ?g/m3as
during Diwali. Increased Particulate matter levels result in adverse
meteorological conditions, like lower night time temperature, low mixing height
and low wind speed.
Noise Pollution… 'Bombs' are a favourite
amongst kids, and the noisier the better. This leads to noise pollution, and a
prolonged exposure to such high levels of noise can lead to permanent damage of
the eardrums.
Financial Loss ... There
are 160 crore people in India. Even if we take an average of $20 or Rs.1000 per
head of expenditure...... India ends up burning Rs 160000 crores on a
single Diwali night. There are families who end up burning an average of Rs
200,000 and also those who can't afford a decent candle on this night
but Rs 1000 is a meagre average. Arun Jaitley,
who is both the Defence Minister and the Finance Minister in the new BJP
government, presented the budget for the year 2014-15 on July 10, 2014 and
allocated an amount of 229,000 crore for the current financial year for
Defence. . ... Imagine Indian public which ends up burning half
this amount on a single night on stupid firecrackers. If we
Indians decide not to spend a single penny on firecrackers we can not only
raise many new divisions for the protection of our borders but buy or
manufacture high quality helicopters, guns, tanks and ammunition for our forces
to the extent that even a super super power will have second thoughts before confronting
India.
Garbage… The amount of garbage
released on the day after Diwali is phenomenal, approximately 5000 metric tons
in Delhi alone. If we add to it four times this garbage in Mumbai it would be
25000 Metric tons in just two major cities of India…. Pan India this highly
contagious garbage would amount to lakhs of metric tons on this single night of
money burning mindless festivities. This is purely chemical garbage extremely
hazardous for the environment as it comprises of chemicals like phosphorous,
sulphur and potassium chlorate, and tons of burnt paper.
Accidents… Nearly 10,000 people get
injured by the crackers. Some of them could be fatal but most of the injuries
are minor but maiming.
So don’t forget my appeal to make
diwali as much smokeless and noiseless. You will end up saving not only our
nation’s Air and waters but also billions of Rs for our country.

पिछले वर्ष चीन की बढती दादागिरी को ध्यान में रखते हुए भारतीय सेना की एक नई कोर बनाई गई.. 'Mountain Strike Corps'. इस कोर में 40 हज़ार जवानों की तैनाती की गई है ! एक जवान की तैनाती का खर्च तक़रीबन एक लाख रूपये प्रति माह है जिस में जवान तथा अफसरों की तनख्वाह, रख रखाव का खर्चा जैसे की खाना, कपड़ा, रिहाइश, ट्रांसपोटेशन और गोला बारूद का खर्च शामिल है जो मैंने काफी कम कर के आँका है। यानि की ये सब पैसा हमारे देश के खज़ाने से ही खर्च होता है और अपने देश के खज़ाने को मजबूत हम तभी कर सकते हैं जब हम ज्यादा से ज्यादा देशी माल का उपभोग करें तथा चीनी माल को खरीद कर चीन की अर्थ व्यवस्था को स्ट्रांग करने में अपना मूर्खता भरा योगदान न दें। दीपावली के अवसर पर चीन हमारे देश में तक़रीबन 10 हज़ार करोड़ का माल बेच देता है.. और इस पैसे से हमारे Mountain Strike Corps जैसे सैन्यबलों को नष्ट करने के लये धन जुटाता है। तो..... इस दीपावली वादा की जिए की आप चीनी माल नहीं खरीदें गे। आप जानते हैं दिवाली पर हिन्दुस्तान का दीवाला निकलता है.... और चीन की असली दिवाली होती है…. पिछले वर्ष दिवाली पर भारत को पचास हजार करोड़ का नुकसान हुआ था...... और इस वर्ष यह नुकसान सौ हजार करोड़ तक होने का अनुमान है..... नतीजा होगा महँगाई...... इस के इलावा दीवाली भारत का एक मात्र ऐसा त्यौहार है जिस के कारण हर साल हज़ारो बच्चे अपनी दृष्टि खो बैठते , लाखों अस्थमा के मरीज़ मारे जाते हैं या और ज्यादा तकलीफ सहते हैं, नॉइज़ और एटमॉस्फेरिक प्रदूषण खतरे की सभी हदों से कहीं आगे निकल जाता है, तो इस त्यौहार से न तो सेहत मंद भारत का निर्माण होता है और न ही स्वछ भारत का। कमी त्यौहार में नहीं बल्कि हमारे त्यौहार मनाने के तरीके में है. मेरा आप सभी से अनुरोध है कि इस दिवाली पर जहाँ तक संभव हो "हिन्दुस्तान की ही बनी हुई वस्तुओ" का प्रयोग करें, ध्वनि प्रदूषण तथा धुंआ फैलाने वाले पटाखों का इस्तेमाल न कर के सिर्फ मोम या तेल के दिए जलाएं, विदेशी चीनी चकाचोंध से लैस वस्तुओं का बहिष्कार करें ...और भारत बचाओ अभियान मे अपना सहयोग दें। , ...कवि बलवंत गुरने।।
