There
is a professor student dialogue doing the rounds of net for quite some time
now. Many
think it almost vindicates their faith in God and many think it vindicated
Non-Duality. It's nothing more than a Joke of a Socratic dialogue presented to prove a moronic hypothesis........... Read and enjoy this first before I make it disappear in thin air. MY TAKE at the end.
An
Atheist Professor of Philosophy was speaking to his Class on the Problem
Science has with GOD , the ALMIGHTY. He asked one of his New Students to stand
and . . .
Professor
:Do you Believe in GOD ?
Student
: Absolutely, sir.
Professor
: Is GOD Good ?
Student
: Sure.
Professor
: Is GOD ALL – POWERFUL ?
Student
: Yes.
Professor
: My Brother died of Cancer even though he prayed to GOD to heal him. Most of
us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn’t. How is this GOD
good then? Hmm? (Student
was silent )
Professor
: You can't answer, can you ? Let’s start again, Young man. Is GOD Good?
Student
: Yes.
Professor
: That’s right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?
Student
: Yes.
Professor
: And GOD did make everything. Correct?
Student
: Yes.
Professor
: So who created evil ? (Student
did not answer)
Professor
: Is there Sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things
exist in the world, don't they?
Student
: Yes, sir.
Professor
: So, who created them ? (Student
had no answer)
Professor
: Science says we use 5 senses to identify and observe the world
around us. Tell me, son . . . Have you ever seen, heard, touched, felt, tasted or smelt GOD ? Tell me if you ever
had any sensory perception of GOD for that matter?
Student
: No, sir. I’m afraid I haven’t.
Professor
: Yet you believe in God? According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your
GOD does not exist. What do you say to that, son?
Student
: Nothing. I only have my faith.
Professor
: Yes, faith. And that is the problem science has.
...................Now the student has his turn to grill the professor....
Student
: Professor, is there such a thing as heat?
Professor
: Yes.
Student
: And is there such a thing as cold?
Professor
: Yes.
Student
: No, sir, It is not so. (The
Lecture Theatre became very quiet with this turn of events). Sir, we can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, red hot or white
hot heat, a little heat or no heat, but we can't have anything called cold. We can
hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can’t go any further after
that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe
the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the
opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it. ..... (There
was pin-drop silence in the Lecture Theatre )
Student
: What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?
Professor
: Yes. There is darkness. I mean what about the night being dark, a dark room?
Student
: You are again wrong sir, darkness is the absence of light. You can have
low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light . . but if you have no
light constantly, you have nothing and its called darkness, In
reality, darkness isn’t. If it is, you would be able to make darkness darker,
wouldn’t you?
Professor
: So what is the point you are making, Young Man ?
Student
: Sir, my point is your Philosophical premise is flawed.
Professor
: Flawed ? Can you explain how?
Student
: Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and
then there is death, a Good GOD and a Bad GOD. You are viewing the concept of
GOD as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can’t even
explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much
less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to
be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death
is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor, do
you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?
Professor
: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I
do.
Student
: Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?
(The
Professor shook his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument
was going)
Student
: Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot
even prove that this process is an on-going endeavour, are you not teaching
your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher? (The
class was in uproar )
Student
: Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the professor’s brain?
(The
class broke out into laughter)
Student
: Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor’s brain, felt it,
touched or smelt it? . . .No one appears to have done so. So, according to the
established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, Science says
that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust
your lectures,sir?
(The
room was silent. The Professor stared at the student, his face unfathomable)
Professor
: I guess you’ll have to take them on faith, son. Student
: That is it sir . . . exactly ! The link between MAN and GOD is FAITH. That
is all that keeps things alive and moving..........
..............Friends this story is a cleverly created trap by people in the business of selling God. For untrained minds this is one great argument and nails it all. Very cleverly the professor is made a symbol of questioning mind and its a student who is providing the logic to pin down his professor, an underdog challanging an established authority, a perfect script. Nothing could be farther than truth because the argument is full of logical fallacies.
In short well woven bullshit serving the most satanic of purpose, strengthening
a faith responsible for death of billions of animals and humans as sacrifice at
altars of different religions and also responsible for death of millions in wars and riots that took place in the name of
so called faith. Going by the logic presented here all that it would mean is
that there are no atheists because atheism is simply the absence of
religion. This dialogue leaves out the
fact that science has certain ways to prove things that cannot be detected by
the five senses, that is by presenting a testable hypothesis and if the underlying
assumptions of that hypothesis are proven false then the hypothesis is false. The dialogue also furthers an assumption that science makes
falsifiable claims inspite of scientific methodology whereas religion makes non-falsifiable claims purely on basis of faith............... Holy Crap. We can assume
the teacher has a brain based on a system of inferences...if our inferences
aren't good enough for some we can certainly cut the man’s head open, or wait
till he dies and see if he possess a brain but wouldn't that be ridiculous, The sad part is
that firstly someone made it all up so that he/she can feel better about his/her nonsensical
beliefs and secondly there are suckers who take it as truth. For the poor logic presented here all that I'll say is light too is a name of a state of being in nature and so is darkness. Same goes for hot and cold. They all are words after all, only symbols in human lexicon to represent natural states. Absence of one amounting to the presence of nothing is a flawed assumption. Let's assume I walked up to a person (call him Sonu Seeker)
on the street and told him flat out that I absolutely do not believe he exists.
He would probably call for the men in the white coats, but I'm sure for my thinking that he does not exist he wouldn't desire to punish me by throwing me in burning lakes of fire as the imps poke me with their spiky spears, unless of course I insist that 'Sonu Seeker' does not exist and I want to take my car right through him. God, Devil, Hell and Heaven are absurd, childish notions and I actually think they were
created by man to be used purely as threats and enticements to gather followers
to this or that faith, and to cover up the evil actions by making them look smaller when compared to
the actions of bigger evil Satan and to humble the goodness in people so as to keep them enslaved by making them feel small always and every time to a mega good called God.... .....Theist bedtime stories,
endearing they could be, if they weren't so moronic.
