2. The two parties involved in this contract are the Government and the people. Since the day society got organised, a need was felt that every one can't be doing everything, so the need for role allocation was felt. It was felt in family, and smaller aswellas larger units of human inhabitations.
3. Ultimate need felt for peaceful existence of any society was the need of protection of rights of each and every member of society, and for this the concept of governance came in to force, and as a result different forms of governments evolved, parliamentary democracy being just one of the types.
4. None of the types of governments can said to be ideal. A benevolent and strong ruler, or a Philosopher King is most desired but it doesn't happen in real time world. As power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, the need for better governance has always been felt.
5. Of all the presently available forms of governments, democracy is considered a good option. It is of two types, direct and indirect. Direct democracy is ideal for small states with small population of very aware citizens, as it involves formation of laws, their amendments, and formation of rules and regulations by the people directly. In simple words there is direct voting held by citizens for taking all major state decisions.
6. In, indirect or representative democracy, people chose their representatives for a fixed period of time, who are entrusted and empowered by them, to take decisions on their behalf.
7. It could be Presidential or Parliamentary type of indirect democracy. In my opinion, if one has to chose between these two, presidential form is far better, as it cleanly separates major executive from lawmakers or legislators. In this case the Chief Executive of the state, that is the president gets directly elected by people, but after that he is free to pick his team of executives from public. As far as law making is concerned, laws are made by elected legislators, but none of the legislators can become a part of the executive.
8. We in India have parliamentary system, but as the elections are faught using personalities, or party symbols, many criminalised crooks get elected riding the pop-wave in favour of this or that party or man, and as a result they not only become lawmakers, but even ministers, who are the senior most executive heads of different departments in India. This is the root cause of corruption, bad governance and a mad race for power in India.
9. It is an open secret in India, that elections in India are faught by manipulating public opinion, misrepresentation of facts, and making false promises. Also to be a peon in India, one must have a certified clean character, certain qualifications etc, but to be elected as an MP or an MLA, one's being uneducated, or having a criminal background doesn't matter.
10. Thus the corrupted, but politically elected bosses do not look at themselves as instruments of service to society, but they use this opportunity to make money, riches and turn their families into ruling families of sorts.
11. Do not forget that going by the theory of Social Contract, any government is elected or selected , empowered and entrusted to protect society from internal and external threats, aswellas protect the rights of all individuals.
12. Today's political class is focused on manipulation and exploitation of society, and has completely failed the social contract.
13. If they had the honest intentions of forming a healthy society or a healthy nation, they would already have tried to educate themselves on their duties towards the citizens aswellas the nation, rather than reminding the citizens of their duties alone.
14. The fact is that their only true intention is to grab power and have their way with the society.
15. These rascals, one and all, need being fixed nice and proper, once and for all.
16. Thus any government, with which people are dissatisfied, must be changed or overthrown at the earliest. This is the most sacrosanct duty of people towards their society/Nation.
17. Also remember, that other than the moral duty of overthrownig an unjust government, all citizens of a modern state like India are expected to fulfill certain constitutionally well defined duties.
18. These Fundamental Duties are:-
i). It is the duty of every citizen to respect the national symbols of our nation including our constitution and national flag.
ii). It is the duty of every citizen to cherish India's heritage, and when we say this, we must cherish the heritage of all Indian cultures and regions put together.
iii). It is the duty of every citizen to assist in nation's defence.
iv). It is the duty of every citizen to protect the environment, by doing any thing and everything to ensure that our air and water bodies are not polluted. This needs an honest approach, for instance one should contribute by real plogging, not just photo moment plogging or ritual 5k runs to save environment.
v). It is the duty of every citizen to protect public property. It is the duty of every citizen to not allow anyone to vandalise parks, buildings and other public property, and never allow someone to break or set vehicles and railways on fire.
vi). It is the duty of every citizen to provide opportunities for education to children between the ages of six and fourteen years and ensure that children get educated.
vii). It is the duty of every citizen to develop scientific temper. This means saying goodbye to superstitious practices, both religious or traditional superstitious practices of all kinds. To be rational and logical in one's thoughts and practices, is a fundamental duty of every Indian citizen.
viii). It is the duty of every citizen to abjure violence. To abjure violence means, to renounce upon oath, to reject with solemnity, to abandon violence forever. Protest if you must, but don't be violent. If every Indian was willing to fulfill this duty alone, there would never be any riots in India.
ix). It is the duty of every citizen, to promote the spirit of common brotherhood in our nation. Simply put, it is every citizen's fundamental duty, not to divide people on regional or religious basis. Going by this duty, all political parties, which are formed around a religion, or all leaders who do politics based on religion or region, are basically failing in fulfilling their fundamental duty, and are not deserving of calling themselves Indians. Period.
x). It is the duty of every citizen to preserve India's composite culture.
xi). It is the duty of every citizen to strive towards excellence in all spheres of life.
20. But remember that the most naturally Sacrosanct duty of any and all citizens of India is to give themselves a government comprised of people, who are fulfilling all the fundamental duties, are capable of running our nation in the light of directive principles of our constitution, and also at the same time they are alert towards protecting every citizen's fundamental rights, 'the freedom of speech and expression' being cardinal amongst the rights that need being ensured.
21. Why our leaders need to be more aware of fundamental duties than an ordinary citizen is because our political leaders mostly are, the worst social role models and poor examples of a good citizen, as they are characterless serial liars, corrupt to the core, and famous for seeking bribes and thrive on sycophancy.
22. For instance, a person who has not taken interest in the self education, how can we expect him to fulfill his duty of ensuring education for children. If a person himself involved in riots, violence, arsoning and destruction of public property is made a minister via our flawed political system, how can we accept such a person as a minister. So friends change the government and always elect people who are deserving of being ministers, not desirous of being one.
